BEVERAGES group, Delta Corporation clinched the Investor of the Year Award 2013 at the inaugural Zimbabwe Investment Authority (ZIA) Investor Awards held at a local hotel on Tuesday.

The awards, meant to promote investment in the frail-but-recovering economy, were attended by high profile delegates who included diplomats.

Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa was the guest of honour.

Delta's award, also called the Chairman's Award, was based on the choice of adjudicators out of all winners, with consideration being given to factors such as size of investment, significance of business, job creation, supply chain strength and contribution to the fiscus.

"Delta Corporation, we are very proud of you for being the lifetime investor in Zimbabwe - over a century of dedicated service to the nation. Keep it up," said a message on ZIA's Facebook page soon after the ceremony.

But it was not just Delta who left the event with an accolade.

Companies from various sectors of the economy clinched awards.

This award looked at number of projects, value of investments brought in and number, size and frequency of delegations visiting Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwean diplomats were also honoured for their efforts in luring investment. The country's embassies in China, South Africa and India were honoured in this respect.

A total of 66 certificates and 30 shields were presented to the winners.
