Government will set up a $100 million credit facility for small scale miners to support them with equipment and expertise to improve viability.

Mines Minister Walter Chidhakwa said the facility is also expected to boost annual gold output to over 14 tonnes from current four tonnes.

He said the Mines ministry has already spoken to RBZ and the Ministry of Finance on the issue and is expected to roll out the project soon.

There are about 40 000 registered small scale gold miners countrywide.
