The Kimberly Process Certification Scheme intercessional meeting has started in Luanda Angola, with the initial working group sessions avoiding contentious issues to do with the vice chairmanship and certification of the Central African Republic (CAR).

The first session has seen Zimbabwe being commended for complying with KP standards, and has given hope to CAR's aspirations of becoming a member of the world diamond trade governing body.

The Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Walter Chidhakwa said Zimbabwe had communicated well the amalgamation of diamond mining firms in the country to the KPCS, and has been complying with the organ's stipulations in the mining and trade of the precious gems.

Issues on the agenda of the Luanda KPCS intercessional meeting include regulatory compliance, with other issues being tackled in thematic working groups.

The admission of the CAR and the vice chairmanship are not on the official agenda but expectations are high the issues will be tackled at this forum.

The meeting is running until the 27th of this month.
