Air Zimbabwe set to recruit

Air Zimbabwe set to recruit
Published: 20 July 2017
AIR Zimbabwe (AirZim) is expected to launch a recruitment drive to replace staff retrenched a fortnight ago, sources said this week.

The airline retrenched 200 of its staff two weeks ago under a restructuring exercise meant to contain costs.

The sources said the national flag carrier is now scouting for a consultant to help recruit new staff as well as recommend a viable business model.

The Financial Gazette understands that the AirZim board was currently in the process of selecting the appropriate consultant.

"Air Zimbabwe is searching for accredited and reputable training organisations to develop, train, implement and institutionalise an innovative and tailor-made management development programme for its middle and senior management," reads a copy of an expression of interest seen by the Financial Gazette.

According to the document, the consultant will, among other things, assess, develop and train each manager using scientifically validated assessment instruments, working under a performance based contract.

AirZim board chairperson, Chipo Dyanda, said the programme was part of AirZim's retraining programme.

"I can assure you that the board's decisions are professional and strategic for the revival of the airline. This airline is due for revival and this restructuring is one of the cornerstones of this revival. Retrenchment is one of the results of restructuring. The others are recruitment of the right expertise to support the new business model and retraining to reorient employees to the new organisational culture and business mode," she said.

Dyanda added that recruitment of new management would begin once the consultant completes his job.

"Our projection is that everything will be in place by January," she said.
