The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) is finalising the financing model for the US$153 million upgrading of Harare International Airport to pave way for the resumption of civil works.

The expansion of airport is expected to increase the number of airlines plying the Harare route, while at the same time boosting tourist arrivals.

The development will also come as a major boost to the country's capital projects after the commissioning of Victoria Falls International Airport which has seen major airlines plying the route at the same time boosting the country's revenue base.

CAAZ Board Chairman, Advocate Thembinkosi Magwaliba said a financing model for the expansion project is being arranged and will be finalised soon to pave way for the commencement of works.

The Harare International Airport has a passenger capacity of 2,5 million annually, which is being complemented by the recently upgraded Victoria Falls International Airport which has the capacity to handle 1.5 million passengers annually.
