Zim embarks on mining titles computerisation

The government has embarked on a programme to computerise mining title systems in a move aimed at ending the practice of double allocation of mining claims while facilitating the smooth implementation of the ‘use it or lose it' principle that is on the cards.

Officiating at the 2017 Mine Entra conference, Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Walter Chidhakwa who was being represented by Minister of Industry and Commerce, Dr Mike Bimha said the government has embarked on the computerisation of provincial offices as a way to unlock value.

Chidhakwa also indicated that his ministry is working on modalities to revise upwards the government policy on stone sub-sector that calls for the cutting and polishing of 10 percent of local production as a way to promote investment in local beneficiation.

On the need for linkages in the mining value chain, NRZ board chairman, Mr Larry Mavhima who are central in the transportation of mineral ore to markets said their turnaround strategy is moving in the right direction with the company that won the bid to partner the parastatal expected to be announced next week.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce which is pursuing a quiet diplomacy in its search for a private partner in Zisco Steel after the flop of Esser deal said; "A major announcement is in the offing as they seek to revive the steel industry".

The three day mining exhibition which began this Wednesday is running under the theme, "Exploring Linkages in Mining Value Chain".
