BULAWAYO-headquartered Pump and Steel Supplies Company has spread its wings to Harare where it has opened a new branch as part of its expansion drive.

The firm's human resources manager, Mr Ernest Jackson, said the new branch was opened two months ago and has employed 30 people.

"We opened another branch in Harare about two months ago and it is situated at Graniteside. We are employing 30 people there and we want to be the biggest employer in the country and skills solution in the region," he said.

Pump and Steel Supplies has grown in leaps and bounds to be one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of industrial steel products ranging from, mild steel furniture tubes, door frames and window frames, pipes and fittings, bush pumps, valves and flow control products.

Mr Jackson, who met Industry and Commerce Deputy Minister Chiratidzo Mabuwa in Bulawayo on Wednesday, urged Government to prioritise industries that are productive saying this was the way to go for robust economic revival and restoration of Bulawayo as the industrial hub.

He said his firm was now operating at 35 percent capacity adding that they wanted to increase output so as to penetrate the exports markets.

He also said the company needed a "little" assistance from the Government as they have the capacity to supply both the local and export markets.

Mr Jackson commended the Ministry of Industry and Commerce for crafting Statutory Instrument 64 of 2016 saying the policy helps curb flooding of imported products that can be supplied locally.

Meanwhile, Mr Jackson also said the country's economy has great potential to be revived and it was just a matter of time before things change for the better.
