Zimbabwe to plug off mineral leakages
Published: 10 April 2018
The government has stepped up efforts to plug off mineral export leakages by establishing a $1.7 million dollar project to monitor flow of resource commodities and determine their exact values.

Zimbabwe is being prejudiced billions of dollars in potential revenue through smuggling of the commodities.

However, government mineral agency, the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) is now setting up a metallurgical laboratory that will determine the real value and quality of minerals.

MMCZ marketing executive Mrs Ottilia Furusa said modalities towards the establishment of the project are already at an advanced stage.

"We are really doing our best to ensure that the project is expedited as we seek to unlock value on the minerals," she said.

Alleged instances of minerals smuggling have seen Zimbabwe also losing out on mineral growth opportunities.
