Government plans to unveil yet another economic blueprint titled "Zimbabwe Programme for Socio-Economic Transformation" (ZIMPSET).

This comes after Cabinet, appointed over a month ago, has not made any major policy or strategy pronouncements, keenly awaited by both foreign and local investors.

Deputy Finance minister Samuel Undenge, said implementation of Zimpset "is part of government's bid to boost economic recovery and sustain growth."

The Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda, recently revealed that programmes set to be implemented immediately under ZIMPSET would be under four major clusters - food security and nutrition, development of infrastructure and utilities, social services and poverty eradication and value addition and beneficiation.

According to the 2013 Manufacturing Sector Survey, the pharmaceutical industry is among the hardest hit from 58 percent in 2012 down to 20 percent in 2013.

Through ZIMPEST, Dr Sibanda said it was expected that the country should be able to transform not only in terms of economic growth but in the quality of service to be delivered to the people.

"ZIMPSET was greatly informed by a wider consultative process within Government and the private sector and a review of the previous national development programmes as well as the Zanu-PF party manifesto and the vision that was enunciated by President Mugabe in his inaugural speech," said Dr Sibanda.
