The government has commended the National Economic Consultative Forum (NECF) for its role in crafting policies that have lead to social and economic transformation of the country.

NECF celebrated its 20th anniversary yesterday evening with the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Patrick Chinamasa said the forum has played a critical role in economic development.

"Everyone is there to see and assess their role, I think they have done their best," said Chinamasa.

The chief secretary to the President and Cabinet and NECF national co-chairman, Dr Misheck Sibanda said the government will continue to work with the NECF on social and economic policy formulation.

"What more can you expect? I think we are doing our best," he said.

NECF national co-chairman, Dr Robbie Mupawose said the forum will continue to provide technical expertise to the public and the private sectors of the economy.

"We will work with all those who want to see and foster development in this country," said Dr Mupawose.

Industry has also benefitted from NECF programmes, said the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Dr Mike Bimha.

Dr Bimha said; "The industry is also benefiting from the NECF policies such that we really need it".

The NECF which was formed in 1997 represents an innovative mechanism of cooperative governance through dialogue involving the government, the private sector, labour, economic decision makers and the civil society.
