A CHINESE delegation of agricultural experts is expected to visit Zimbabwe soon to conduct a research on exporting locally produced oranges to China.

Chinese Ambassador Mr Huang Ping revealed this during the just-ended Midlands Agricultural Society expo that was held in Gweru.

He said there was a high demand for organic farm produce from Zimbabwe in China, which has the largest population in the world, and urged local farmers to take advantage of the demand.

"With a large population of 1.3 billion people, China has huge demand for organic agricultural food.

"A delegation from China is expected to come and conduct a research on the exportation of oranges to China," he said.

"When we take a look at the avocados exported from Mexico to China, they sell for up to $2, which shows that they are on demand."

Ambassador Huang also said there was a high demand for "road-runner" chickens in China, which local farmers can supply and help earn foreign exchange for the economy.

"There is a high demand for road runners and in the Chinese market they are priced at $25 each. Locals should take this into consideration as they should strive to supply such products and again consider the relationship they have with China," he said.

Earlier on Amb Huang said Zimbabwe should engage China in the marketing of Zimbabwe's tourism destinations to the Asian market.

"It is possible for Zimbabwe to engage China in the marketing of Zimbabwe's tourism destinations. Chinese people know very little about Zimbabwe and from the 135 million Chinese outbound tourists last year, very few come to Zimbabwe," he said.
