THE number of exhibitors at this year's Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo has increased  by 42 percent to 335 from 236 last year as more players seek to tap value from the tourism showcase.

This year's tourism fair begins in Bulawayo at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre on September 28 and ends on October 1.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) head of public relations and corporate affairs, Mr Sugar Chagonda, said:

"Exhibitors at this year's Sanganai/Hlanganani tourism fair have increased to 335 from 236 recorded last year.

"The significant growth in the number of exhibitors is largely because they are seeing a lot of value in Sanganai/Hlanganani Tourism Fair. A lot of business they are conducting is out of participation at the previous editions of the fair".

He said this year's event has already attracted 22 foreign exhibitors' from 12 countries among them South Africa, Ghana, Uganda, Mozambique and Rwanda. The number of exhibitors from Bulawayo has also grown from 95 in 2016 to 150 this year, said Mr Chagonda.

"We also have 24 international media representatives coming at this year's Sanganai/Hlanganani. We are also hosting local media so that the journalists can report factually about the country," he said.

Mr Chagonda said this year's fair has also seen an improvement in the number of international buyers from 118 in 2016 to 237 this year.

This, he said, was due to ZTA's aggressive marketing in the country's major source markets like South Africa, Germany, United States of America and the United Kingdom .

"Sanganai/Hlanganani Tourism Fair has grown over the years and has become a meeting place for those who want to do tourism in Africa.

"Aggressive marketing by ZTA in source markets as well as ZTA's participation at travel shows in major source markets has seen the number of buyers to this year's event growing remarkably," said Mr Chagonda.

Apart from the business-to-business meetings between exhibitors and buyers, the tourism expo would also host a health expo at which people would have an opportunity to get voluntary and free medical check-ups for ailments such as hypertension and diabetes.

The tourism expo showcases the widest variety of Africa's best products, and attracts international visitors and media from across the world.

The expo is one of Africa's premier tourism showcases, aimed at bringing international buyers and exhibitors under one roof.
