THE Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) has introduced an electronic Temporary Import Permit (e-TIP) to make it convenient for motorists when coming to Zimbabwe during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The tax authority says visitors are now able to apply for their TIP online prior to their arrival at the border post.

"The Zimra e-TIP mobile app seeks to make it convenient and quick for visitors coming to Zimbabwe to apply for their vehicle Temporary Import Permits online, from anywhere in the world prior to their arrival at the border post," said Zimra.

It highlighted that this was meant to facilitate smooth clearances at all border posts. In a snap survey by Business Chronicle motorists acknowledged the move taken by Zimra to align its operations with the new technology.

"This is a noble idea taken by Zimra to embrace new technology. There will be no challenges like we usually see during the festive season," said Mr Dumisani Sibanda, a cross border bus driver.

Another driver only identified as Mr Khoza said he hoped the new system will address the challenge of congestion at the border posts during public holidays.

"The idea of e-TIP is good and it means that there will be swift movement this time around," he said.

In August this year, Zimra surpassed the 2017 third quarter revenue performance attributing positive performance to higher collections in Value Added Tax (VAT) on local sales and imports, Individual Tax, Excise Duty and Company Tax.

Meanwhile, the Authority has continued with its anti-corruption initiatives including effective utilisation of the anti corruption hotline, lifestyle audits and whistle blower facility.
