Zim set to import maize this year
Published: 12 April 2018
Zimbabwe's maize output will fall short of a government projection of 2.1 million tonnes during 2017/18 agricultural season, a report by an economic advisory firm released last week indicates.

The Econometer Global Capital report projected output a 745 000 tonnes, far less that the 1.8 million tonnes the government said was required to feed the population.

The development means Zimbabwe will have to import more than one million metric tonnes of maize to feed the nation, despite government's projection of a bumper harvest.
