100 workers get jobs back

At least 100 workers at the troubled National Bakers and Confectioners (NBC) got their jobs back after the High Court dismissed an application by the company's owners seeking to block the firm's sale.

The owners of NBC, trading as Manyame Milling Company, Edurate Investments and the National Social Security Authority wanted to stop an auction of the firm to a new investor.

High Court judge Justice Priscilla Munangati-Munongwa ruled on March 6 that Manyame's assets must be sold. NBC had requested the High Court to stop the sale of Manyame Milling, which had already been bought by a local firm, Drotsky, at an auction on March 2.

Drotsky, which made a commitment to enherit Manyame's entire workforce, is owned by the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe chairman Tafadzwa Musara.
