Lovemore Moyo's UMD making inroads

Published: 10 June 2018
FORMER MDC-T chairman and Speaker of Parliament  Mr Lovemore Moyo says his new political outfit, United Movement for Devolution (UMD)  has been making inroads campaigning in communities as their focus was on gaining support from the lowest rungs of society.

Mr Moyo formed the United Movement for Devolution, early this year after he quit the MDC-T citing factionalism.

"We have been doing intensive work for the past two months and we have even gone to rural areas telling the communities about ourselves and how we can change the nation," he said.

Mr Moyo said they have been well received together with their message of devolution of power as it was their way of political entry.

"Strengthening devolution at provincial level and down to the community is what we have been also focusing on, we want it to get to the lowest level of the community. However, time has been of essence as everyone is busy and looking forward to this election but we have made progress and our message resonates well with aspirations of the masses," he added. Another member of the party Mr Artwel Sibanda said they have visited Matabeleland North, South and Bulawayo to set up structures.

"We have other meetings and rallies lined up in Umguza, Tsholotsho, Hwange, Binga, Fort Rixon, Beitbridge, Gwanda and other areas," said Mr Sibanda.

The party said it was still to finalise its list of candidates for the forthcoming harmonised elections.
