Published: 18 June 2018
THE refurbishment of Sakubva Produce Market, which is being done by the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) in partnership with Mutare City Council, is almost complete.

Mutare City public relations officer Mr Spren Mutiwi said the erection of the new structures at the market was underway and grading of the new produce market structure had started.

"We have partnered with ZCDC to transform the state of Sakubva Produce Market and we have since gone a gear up to complete the entire project," he said.

"We expect the project to be completed after eight weeks. In the meantime, all the vendors have been moved from their workstations to allow uninterrupted construction, which is already in full swing."

Mr Mutiwi Mr Mutiwi said working with the office of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Monica Mutsvangwa had seen more partners joining hands with the city council on several projects.

"The partnership has been made possible through her involvement and we appreciate her development-oriented thrust that dovetails with our vision to create a new city and restore quality and effective service delivery," he said.

"With the momentum that we have, Mutare is destined for a better future. The partnership will bring about a state-of-the-art vendor market. We have removed all the vendors to ensure health and safety precautions."

Mr Mutiwi appealed to vendors at the market to cooperate and give maximum support to the contractors so that the project  can be completed within the designated timelines.

ZCDC chief executive Dr Morris Mpofu recently told stakeholders that the company had set aside $200 000 for the project.

"The refurbishment of Sakubva Produce Market in Mutare is meant to restore order and sanitation at the market," he said. Dr Mpofu said the renovation would give farmers in the province a chance to sell their products in a clean environment.
