MDC Alliance candidate for Mutare North constituency in the July 30 elections, Godfrey Munyamana, has been issued with an arrest warrant.

He defaulted appearing in court for a trial in which he is facing a $380 000 fraud charge.

Munyamana was set to appear before Harare regional magistrate Elisha Singano on June 14 for trial continuation in a matter he is alleged to have defrauded Frank Humbe in a botched house deal.

The State represented by Michael Reza applied for the accused's arrest, an application the magistrate granted.

When the trial opened, Munyamana pleaded not guilty to the charges of defrauding Humbe.

Through his lawyer, Rungano Mahuni, Munyamana had challenged the prosecution not to prefer charges on his client citing that the accused had agreed to an out-of-court settlement.

The State dismissed the accused's submissions arguing the court should listen to the complainant's matter after he was allegedly duped.

In the State case, Reza led Humbe who confirmed that he paid the accused $380 000 towards the purchase of a house the former had advertised for sale.

Humbe also told the court that when he paid the money to the accused, the pair was supposed to look for alternative accommodation so that the complainant could move in his new property.

Munyamana, according to Humbe, became non-committed to the arrangement.

Allegations by the State are that Munyamana in 2013 advertised his house at No. 67 Guildford Crescent, Hogerty Hill which the complainant was interested in.

According to the terms, the complainant paid the $380 000 but Munyamana later failed to vacate the premises and prejudicing Humbe of the money which was never recovered.
