Zanu-PF orders Tongaat Hullet to surrender plantations
Published: 12 September 2013
The Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial leadership has ordered sugar cane growing giant Tongaat Hullet to immediately surrender over 6 000 hectares of cane plantations at Triangle that will be allocated to landless people across the province.

The move to order the cessation of cane plantations came after an audit showed that the company had for years deliberately under-declared the size of its fields at Hippo Valley and Triangle to government.

Tongaat Hullet which, also owns sugar mills at Triangle and Hippo Valley Estates had been claiming that their estates were over 29 000ha but a forensic audit by government showed that the size of the firm's plantations measured well over 35 000ha.
