Overview:

Jhpiego is seeking a Gender and Social Behavior Change Technical Advisor for programs seeking to strengthen health systems, services and uptake of maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), and family Planning (FP) for an upcoming USAID integrated health project in Zimbabwe. This project aims to improve maternal, youth and child health and survival in Manicaland province. The position is focused on reducing socio-cultural barriers to improved health and health seeking behaviors by developing, integrating and documenting strategies to address gender issues related to uptake of health services, especially, respectful care, gender-based violence, and male norms and involvement.
 
This position is contingent upon award from USAID. Zimbabwean nationals are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:

Lead the execution of gender analysis to identify barriers and constraints related to proposed interventions.
Work with teams to develop and oversee strategies to overcome gender-related barriers to accessing services, including user fees and transport limitations.
Design social behavior change workshops for health providers and community members on issues such as respectful care, gender sensitive health service delivery, gender-based violence and engaging men in health.
Work with teams to strengthen gender components of training and job aids for and by community health workers.
Conduct trainings for health workers (both facility and community-based), government and civil society partners to build capacity on respectful maternity care, gender sensitive health service delivery, gender-based violence and engaging men in health.
Design social behavior change communication materials, strategies and interventions, including but not limited to, group education workshops, community dialogue groups or edutainment events, community mobilization workshop and activities, and/or media campaigns.
Conduct supportive supervision to ensure that the above has been well applied in health services, education and outreach.
Mentor and work with local partners to integrate gender strategies into their work supporting Jhpiego health interventions.
Document processes and outcomes for integrating gender into health interventions.
Work with monitoring and evaluation team to analyze and report on indicators, measuring the outcomes and impact of the above interventions.
Assist with writing technical papers and donor reports on the above work.
Liaise with local government and partners to ensure that above activities are coordinated with other efforts to address gender in the context of health programming.
Present and share lessons, best practices and successes related to addressing gender in health services with partners and local government in order to institutionalize practices for scale-up.
Actively participate in technical working group meetings, and represent Jhpiego in professional forums by participating and presenting in pertinent meetings and conferences, as well as technical working groups.
Work with health care professional associations, local authorities, community representatives and project team members to identify and address gender and social behavior change issues that impede access to care.
Assist in the preparation of donor reports and project reports.
Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Public Health, Social Sciences or Development Studies or demonstrated equivalent through experience.
Minimum 8 years program experience in public health and/orinternational development, preferably promoting gender equality.
Minimum 2 years senior level experience providing technical advice on gender equality in programming.
Strong analytical skills, especially for conducting gender analyses.
Strong technical capacity and practical experience in designing and implementing gender sensitive development programs.
Strong technical knowledge and experience in social behavior change theory and methods.
A good knowledge of gender and global development issues, preferably with understanding of USAID's approach to gender equality.
Proven experience in developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating advocacy/gender projects and programs.
Excellent group facilitation and communication skills, experience in multi-stakeholder consultation, and strategic planning skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, able to work well in cross-cultural teams and under tight deadlines.Knowledge of policy advocacy processes.
Proven ability to establish and maintain interpersonal and professional relationships with USAID, host-country counterparts and representatives from other key stakeholders such as NGOs, CSOs, and the private sector.
Knowledge and working within Zimbabwe Ministry of Health and Child Care systems.
Experience working with community health workers and health providers.
Experience in research to practice—identifying and adapting best practices to specific project contexts.
Excellent skills in facilitation, team building, and coordination.
Excellent verbal, written interpersonal and presentation skills in English.
Ability to coach, mentor and develop technical capacity in regional and national programs and technical staff.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Able to undertake frequent travel nationally.
