The Cold Storage Company has expressed hope that the new government will avail funds to support its restocking exercises in order to boost the country’s herd and resume exports.

Ngoni Chinogaramombe said restocking of the national herd was key to a sustainable supply that could anchor exports.

In the past the money that was available covered Matabeleland only but it is hoped that as of next year the money raised will cover the whole country.

At its peak CSC reared 25 000 cattle but at the moment it is at 8 000.

The rest were under the care of out-grower farmers. In the 90s more than 230 000 cattle where in the hands of outgrowers.
