University of Zimbabwe students last week emerged winners of this year's Ethics and Transparency initiative competition organised by Delta Corporation in partnership with BOOST in Harare.

The UZ team beat 8 other universities which participated namely Africa University, Bindura University of Science Education, Chinhoyi University of Technology, Harare Institute of Technology, Midlands State University, National University of Science and Technology, Solusi University and Women's University in Africa.

The group's president Garikai Hoto said the competition was a stepping stone towards instilling an element of responsibility among the students since they are the leaders of tomorrow. "The competition was stiff and it has managed to instill a mentality of responsibility and the willpower among the students to keep developing the communities that they hail from and to us it was welcome development.

"The competition might not look serious but it has managed to uplift the potential of many students and we would like to pass our sincere gratitude to the organisers of the competition," he said.

"We have been able to go to the communities to address the themes of corporate governance and business ethics especially in SME's and other small businesses in our capacity as students," He added.

The BOOST programme director Ms Tanatsa Mparadzi applauded the dedication shown by the students towards addressing good business ethics and corporate social responsibility in their communities.
