Zimra's ASYCUDA system upgrade on course

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) says it is on course to complete the upgrade of the ASYCUDA customs system by the 1st of June and is upbeat of restoring normalcy to the e-services within the next two months as the authority steps up efforts to improve efficiency.

The country's revenue authority, which hosted a stakeholders meeting in Victoria Falls to get an appreciation of some of the challenges taxpayers in the tourism sector are facing, reaffirmed its commitment to the successful implementation of the ongoing systems upgrade.

ZIMRA Commissioner General, Ms Faith Mazani said the authority has managed to restore the customs system to the pre-crush state and is on course to complete the ASUCUDA upgrade by mid-year while the e-services are set to return to normalcy in the next two months.

"We are happy with the submissions from the stakeholders and on our part, we have resolved to ensure that we meet the deadline for the completion of the ASYCUDA system upgrade,' she said.

The ASYCUDA system enables pre-clearance of goods, which entails that importers can clear their goods before arrival at the port of entry as a way of facilitating smooth flow of cargo.

Ms Mazani challenged stakeholders to comply with the requirements under the fiscalisation programme adding that the authority is confident of to resolving the supply challenges which had affected the smooth roll out of the project.

As part of recommendations, stakeholders challenged the authority to address the delays in rebate processing, deal with the red-tape at the ports of entry, guarantee affordability of the fiscal devices and ensure that the tax regime promotes the growth of the tourism sector.

Ms Mazani assured the stakeholders of ZIMRA's resolve to fight corruption and to contribute to the overall economic growth of the domestic economy.
