GWERU-based private property developer Smelly Dube raised the Zimbabwean flag high at the ongoing African Achievers Awards International Lectures and Honours currently underway in Newington, United Kingdom after she scooped a top award.

Dube was invited among other African business people to attend the African Achievers conference running under the theme "Initiating diversified African economy".

The event is being hosted by former Member of Parliament for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, Diane Abbott. The real estate tycoon was honoured with an award in Excellence, Leadership and Enterprise at an awards ceremony which was held at the House of Commons.

"I am happy to receive an award and represent my country at this prestigious ceremony," she told the businessdaily.

"I feel proud to part of this and this will help put my country on the world map especially at a time when the new government is calling for investors to come to Zimbabwe. Such events as this one are very important as they help us market our beautiful country especially in property investment."

Dube said she will continue to work hard and do her philanthropic works that have seen her scooping awards at international level.

The African Achievers Award becomes Dube's second international award after she received another gong from the United Arab Emirates early this year.

The annual conference of African Achievers recognises African leaders, young achievers, community builders and captains of industry who contribute to the growth of a community across the globe.

Other notable international figures to have so far received the African Achievers awards include Desmond Tutu of South Africa, former president of the republic of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete and the late United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan.
