'Public assaults on Zimbabwe police on the rise'

Published: 22 October 2019
THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has claimed there is an increase in cases of assault of its members by the public, a development the law enforcement body has described as disturbing.

National police spokesperson Paul Nyathi yesterday said attacking police officers performing their duties was inexcusable.

"The ZRP is disturbed by the continuous acts of assaults on police officers in the area between Kwame Nkurumah and Angwa Street.
"No one has the right to attack police officers irrespective of one's religion, colour, creed or status. Police will ensure law and order is maintained," Nyathi said.

The area between Kwame Nkrumah and Angwa Street in Harare is a hub of vendors, illegal money-changers and all sorts of traders.
