Mnangagwa appoints diplomat Faranisi as perm sec

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Ambassador Tayerera Faranisi as the new permanent secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry with effect from August 1.

He takes over from Munesushe Munodawafa who will be reassigned within government service in due course, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Misheck

Sibanda said in a statement yesterday.

Munodawafa has been permanent secretary for the Ministry since 2018 after he was moved from the Mines and Mining Development portfolio.

Sibanda described Faranisi as a seasoned career diplomat with extensive experience in senior level administration, diplomacy and protocol services.

He said Faranisi possessed "high level negotiating skills" horned during his extensive service as a diplomat

"These skills are key in navigating and optimising national interests in the domain of multilateral engagements in relation to environmental management and climate change compliance," Sibanda said.

Faranisi served as a senior diplomat in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In the DRC, Faranisi was the head of the Sadc group of Ambassadors.
