NBS to deliver over 600 housing units this year

The National Building Society (NBS) has announced plans to inject more than 600 new housing units into Zimbabwe's national housing pool this year, in a drive aimed at accelerating affordable housing delivery across the country.

The move is part of the Society's ambitious 2025 targets, which also include achieving a projected US$44 million profit by year-end.

Speaking in Harare on Monday after signing a performance contract, NBS board chairman Mr Shingai Mutumbwa outlined the institution's development blueprint for the year. He said the housing units would be spread across several key locations.

"For 2025, NBS intends to bring into the national housing pool 600 units, broken down as follows: 64 units in Glaudina, 300 units in Rangemore (Bulawayo), 153 units in New Mara (Mutare), and 280 stands in Plumtree (Matabeleland South)," said Mr Mutumbwa.

He noted that the Society was building on the momentum from a successful 2024 and had set strong performance benchmarks across its operations.

"We aim to attain US$44 million in profit for the full year of 2025, supported by targeted revenues of US$29,8 million and an employee satisfaction ratio of 75 percent," he said.

In addition, NBS is aiming to grow its capital base to US$28,7 million and expand its balance sheet to US$130,3 million. Mr Mutumbwa emphasized the institution's ongoing commitment to value preservation, particularly for pensioners and depositors.

He also revealed that NBS plans to increase its customer base significantly. "Our goal is to raise the number of customers or account holders to 80,000," he said.

NBS is one of the key players supporting the government's Vision 2030 goals by providing housing finance solutions tailored to low- and middle-income earners, particularly through public-private sector partnerships.
