Zimbabwe Post (Zimpost) has so far automated 51 offices as the postal services company moves to computerize its over the counter services.

The postal company's automation project is nearing completion and follows the launch of a money transfer service ZipCash.

In a statement to celebrate the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) Day on January 18 the parastatal said it has set targets to provide financial services that are in line with the new (ICT).

"A case in point is the financial dimension, where postal organizations were being encouraged to provide financial services that are in line with the new information and communication technologies (ICT) such as mobile money transfer and electronic money transfer services, as a way of complementing the dwindling mail business," the company said.

PAPU is a specialized agency for the African Union (AU) which was born in 1980. It was formed to spearhead the development of postal services in Africa, under the auspices of AU.

Zimpost has an unrivalled postal network of over 250 postal outlets spread throughout the country.
