Govt lifts ban on 5 gold mines

Govt lifts ban on 5 gold mines
Published: 16 February 2015
The government has lifted a ban on five out of 11 gold mines after complying with stipulated regulations.

Information obtained from the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development shows that the lifting of the ban on the five gold mines was made after the regulatory authorities were satisfied with gold mining and marketing procedures.

The five mines whose ban has been lifted are Tarford Milling Centre, Hollies Six, Munyati River Ranch, St Kilda Mill and Timsite Custom Milling Centre.

Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) Chairman, Mr Edzayi Kufandarerwa said compliance to stipulated procedures is important in facilitating the recovery of Zimbabwe’s gold mining industry.

"It is something that is critical and we hope for better returns as the mines return to normalcy," said Mr Kufa.

The government imposed a ban on 11 gold mines in December last year to curb gold leakages and increase deliveries to fidelity printers and refiners.
