$57m AfDB loan secured

Government has secured a $58 million facility from the African Development Bank for rehabilitation of water, sewer systems and power infrastructure for several local authorities.

The projects are in line with the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation's Infrastructure Cluster.

In notices published in the media yesterday, the work will be executed by the Zimbabwe Multi-Donor Trust Fund Management Unit.

Government wants to rehabilitate water supply and sewerage systems in Chegutu, Kwekwe and Masvingo, with Technofab Engineering Ltd-Gammon India Ltd Joint Venture, an Indian firm, doing the work for $9 231 294,50.

Others who had bid for the tender were China Railway No 5 Engineering Group Company Ltd and WK Construction Private Ltd of South Africa.

For the supply of sewer cleaning vehicles and equipment for six urban authorities, the tender went to Italian firm, Com Int SpA and Vittorio Cauvin SpA for $4 117 369,40. South Africa's Ian Dickie and Company Private Ltd lost out.

The winning bidder for rehabilitation of water supply and sewerage systems in Harare and Chitungwiza was India's Technofab-Gammon ($11 345 690), with China Railway No 5 Engineering Group Company and South Africa's WK Construction again losing out.

Rehabilitation of water supply and sewerage systems in Mutare will also be done by Technofab-Gammon ($9 080 343,50). China Geo-Engineering Corporation and China Railway No 5 Engineering Group Company limited's bids were rejected, as was WK Construction's.

In the energy and power supplies services, Government awarded Angelique International Ltd, an Indian company, the tender to supply and install 11kv and 33kv distribution transformers and underground cables, as well as to rehabilitate existing 11kv and 33kv distribution lines in five regions at a cost of $15 352 498.

Egypt's El Sewedy Electric T and D Company had their bids rejected.

For sub-transmission facilities reinforcement, China Electric Company Limited, the only bidder, won at an award price of $8 565 535,77. The firm will replace seven sub-transmission transformers at various substations, and also replace 88kv and 132kv faulty circuit breakers.

KPMG Zimbabwe was selected as the consultant for the rehabilitation projects at an award price of $116 469,70 ahead of India's Lochan and Company.
