One of the resolutions from the 2013 Zanu-PF Annual National People's Conference on promoting mineral beneficiation and value addition is to priorities the operationalisation of New ZimSteel and engage co-operating partners in the establishment of an additional steel production plant.

Under ZimAsset, the increased supply of value added steel is an outcome that is to be achieved under the value addition cluster the estimated outputs of the initiation are 700 000 tonnes of liquid steel per annum to be produced.

The strategies that the government intend to use include to operationalise NewZimSteel and to target financial support to SMEs in metal fabrication.

The resolution of establishing a new plant will not only increase the level of steel supply but it will come with great benefits such as employment creation and multiplier effects of developing the city and this will facilitate in the growth of the economy.

Perhaps the only issue lies in the ability of the Government to secure a good partnership deal for this initiative.
