Mbada Diamonds invests deeper

Government has said that of the 7 diamond mines in Chiadzwa, only Mbada Diamonds has actively invested in capital-intensive equipment that is meant to exploit underground resources.

Most of the mines that have been operating in the diamond-rich area have since exhausted alluvial diamond resources on their claims.

Mbada Diamonds, which was the first company to be awarded a concession to mine in Marange, has already made a commitment to invest in acquiring new machinery as well as a processing plant to expand its operations.

With alluvial diamonds fast running out in the Marange fields, kimberlitic diamonds, which are more difficult to extract, hold the key to the future of production in an area that is believed to hold more than 25% of the world's diamond deposits.

Mines and Mining Development Minister Walter Chidhakwa said other diamond mining companies had to follow suit.
