Australia, Zimbabwe business council launched

THE Australia-Zimbabwe Business Council (AZBC) was launched on February 23 in Wollongong, Sydney, Australia, to strengthen bilateral trade and foster business relations and investment between the two countries.

AZBC national chairman Samuel Sebenzo said the launch of the organisation would benefit the two countries' businesspeople.

"The AZBC will lobby for increased trade and investment between Australia and Zimbabwe, grow a healthy and active alliance of members, both in Australia and in Zimbabwe, and lead the way in developing better and increasing business relations between our two countries," Sebenzo said.

Even though relations between Zimbabwe and Australia have not been palatable, local business will have access to capital and goods from Australia through the assistance of the Australian Embassy in Harare.

AZBC seeks to assist Australian businesses and investors to take advantage of such opportunities. Australian businesses and investors are eagerly seeking advantageous new prospects and the AZBC would be well equipped to facilitate access to such opportunities.

"We are excited about the business opportunities between the two countries that will be created through AZBC's business matching service and through trade and investment promotion activities," Sebenzo said.

"Via the AZBC, Australian businesses are provided with the opportunity to network and trade with Zimbabwean businesses using a customised business matching service. Likewise, the AZBC introduces Australian investors to unique investment opportunities in Zimbabwe.

The AZBC liaises on behalf of its members with the Australian government and authorities in Zimbabwe to represent the business, trade and investment interests of its members, domestically and abroad.

Sebenzo said the AZBC had partnered with the Council for Young Africans Living Abroad (CYALA), which provides global support for Diaspora's Africans by encouraging and facilitating entrepreneurship. CYALA is committed to assist 10 000 young Africans in starting their own businesses by 2020.

Australian sporting goods company Spartan Sports donated equipment worth over A$12 000 to Zimbabwe Cricket at the AZBC launch.
