Transport, Communication and Infrastructural Development Minister Nicholas Goche has appointed a new board for Air Zimbabwe.

The new board has been tasked with coming up with innovative ways to revive the national airline.

The 7-member board is going to be headed by former cricket boss Mr Ozias Bvute who oozed lots of zeal and seemed prepared to tackle the challenge.

Bvute said he is aware of the challenges that are bedevilling the national airline but promised the nation that failure is not an option.

"We promise you that we are up to the challenge and we are aware of the challenges that await us. We can only but try," said Mr Bvute.

Other board members include Vice Board Chairperson, Mr Gabriel Mugabe, Mr Michael Hove, Mr Nathan Chikono, Mrs Laura Gwatiringa, Captain Alex Makanda and Ms Locadia Majonga.

Goche said there is no doubt that the country needs a national airline and the mandate of this newly appointed board is to come up with strategies that will turn around the fortunes of Air Zimbabwe.

"The airline has been going through difficulties with no funds from treasury, and we certainly hope the new board will be innovative and find ways to revamp the national airline," Goche said.

Meanwhile, Minister Goche also appointed a new 7-member board for the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe.

The new board is going to be headed by Nelson Mawema and its other members include Retired Assistant Commissioner Peter Kuyeri, Mrs Rosemary Chikarara-Mpofu, Dr George Vera, Engineer Phillip Pfukwa, Retired Bishop Siyachitema and Mrs Fay Steblecki.
