Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has arrived in Harare this Thursday afternoon.

President Nguema Mbasogo was received at Robert Mugabe International Airport by Vice President Retired General Dr Constantino Chiwenga and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Retired Lieutenant General Dr Sibusiso Moyo, Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan province Miriam Chikukwa, Central Intelligence Organisation Director General Isaac Moyo and other senior government officials.

The Equatorial Guinea leader is on a two-day official visit to pay a courtesy call on President Emmerson Mnangagwa who assumed the presidency in November last year.

Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea have had long time friendship from the time Zimbabwe under former President Robert Mugabe intercepted mercenaries led by Simon Mann who were planning to topple President Mbasogo.

The two countries have had bilateral agreements in the areas of education and mining and they are now exploring new areas of cooperation.

Equatorial Guinea has recently discovered oil and has a GDP of over US$10 billion with a capita income of over US$3 000.
