The government says the current fuel blending exercise will not reduce the price of the commodity.

In an interview on the sidelines of a presentation on challenges facing the energy sector to students attending a Joint and Command Staff Course at the Zimbabwe Staff College, the Minister of Energy and Power Development, Dzikamai Mavhaire said the current e-10 blending will not result in the reduction of fuel prices.

He said blending margins must be increased if the exercise is to result in reduced fuel prices.

There have been concerns among motorists over fuel prices with indications that they were expecting that fuel prices will go down following the mandatory blending introduced by the government.

Meanwhile, Minister Mavhaire assured the nation that his ministry will continue working to ensure that there is adequate energy in the country for development.

He said plans have been put in place to ensure Zimbabweans adopt the use of renewable energy.

Zimbabwe is facing power deficit as the country's major power stations are operating below capacity.

However, the use of renewable energy is expected to give a lasting solution to the country's energy challenges.
