At least 35 exhibitors are expected at the third edition of the country's premier Research and Intellectual Expo to be held from October 2 to 4 this year, up from 26 last year, an official said yesterday.

RIE is a Government initiative that seeks to harness research and intellectual work by Zimbabweans both at home and in the Diaspora for national development.

Higher and Tertiary Education permanent secretary Dr Washington Mbizvo said preparations for the expo were at an advanced stage.

"The overall thrust of the 2013 showcase is to build partnerships that widen and unleash opportunities for wealth creation, and will address a wide range of critically important themes in the various fields that make up the humanities, science and expressive arts," he said.

Mbizvo said international speakers would grace the event including some of the world's renowned thinkers in various disciplines, as well as numerous papers, workshops, posters and other presentations by researchers," he said.

He said countries from which keynote speakers would come from included Zambia, Namibia, South Africa and the United States.

"The increase in the number of participants shows we have had tremendous impact in the past two years in which the expo has been in existence," he said.
